Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs
In response to reports on that Paraguayan First Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Hugo Meza recently said that Paraguay is "wasting time" on Taiwan island, which he referred to as a province of China, and urged that Paraguay should engage in serious discussions on developing relations with China based on national interests and should no longer act like a "beggar country" waiting for "cooperation" with the Taiwan regional authorities, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said China has taken note of the report and has heard similar voices on multiple occasions, and that these remarks reflect the strong will of the majority of the Paraguayan people.
Guo noted that in recent years, more and more people in Paraguay have come to realize that the country should no longer remain an outlier in the international community by turning its back on China.
China hopes the Paraguayan government will seriously heed these calls and make the right choice that truly serves the fundamental and long-term interests of Paraguay and its people.
He also welcomed more Paraguayan friends to visit China, experience its development firsthand, appreciate the openness and inclusiveness of Chinese civilization, and gain a better understanding of the real China.
